biography
Zuzana Niederdorfer is an awarded winner of several national and international competitions, including the Robert Schumann competition in Zwickau (DE), Paloma O’Shea in Santander (ES), Virtuosi per musica di pianoforte (CZ), the Fryderyk Chopin competition in Mariánske Lázňe (CZ) and Incontro Internazionale Giovani Pianisti Citta di Senigallia (IT). At national competitions she was awarded the first prize in solo,- and chamber music, too. During her pianistic career she could acquire knowledges by Viktor Nosov, Ida Černecká (student of V.Gornostaeva) and M. Lapšanský. She was inspired at the masterclasses in the class of professors K. Zemplenyi, L. Berman, V. Gornostaeva, G. Sebök.
She received her master’s degree in piano performance at the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in Bratislava, in 1993 she earned her doctor degree. Niederdorfer has performed solo recitals and collaborated with orchestras (among others Moscow Symphonic Orchestra) and chamber groups throughout Europe, China, and the United States.
She is solo artist on six CDs and did many recordings for BBC London and Czecho-Slovak radio and television. She taught more than twenty years at the music faculty of the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in Bratislava and at the Academy of Arts in Banska Bystrica, Slovakia, where she worked as the head of department and vice dean.
Since 2011 she is professor at the piano department at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz in Austria. Among her students are numerous awarded laureates of international competitions.
Zuzana Niederdorfer has given masterclasses in Italy, England, Germany, Austria, Finland, Island, United States, China, Poland and many other countries. She is member of the jury at national and international competitions. In Slovakia she founded an international music festival, piano-masterclasses, and the international piano competition ,,Forum Per Tasti”.
